Work excellence meaning
Work excellence is the ability to perform well above average, or better than others would expect of you in your workplace. This can be expressed as a drive to achieve, or the ability to perform at a consistently high level. Excellence is often said to be an attribute of great people, but it can also be applied in everyday situations.
Excellence is not a goal to achieve, but a constant state of being. It’s an ongoing process that requires effort and dedication, but it also comes from within. There are many ways to achieve excellence, including setting goals and working hard toward them; identifying your strengths and weaknesses; learning from others who have achieved excellence in their fields; and so on.
Examples of excellence in the workplace
Here’s an example, Paul is a Business Developer at a marketing agency in Thika. He works a standard work week of 8 am to 5 pm, Monday through Friday. He comes to work on time and leaves work on time every day. He drafts a “To-do” list which he prepares the night before and tracks his progress daily. He is constantly checking in with his manager and gives him updates so that his manager is aware of the work done by Paul and assists him where he can. Paul is disciplined enough to avoid distractions but commits to his ”To-do” list and works hard until he has completed his daily tasks. He takes a break at the right time and does not stay longer than the stipulated time. He completes his tasks on time and the work that he does is of good quality. Whenever he has a personal responsibility to attend to, he reports to his manager and Paul has gained his manager’s trust. Paul also helps his colleagues with their work and everyone praises him as the best team player. It is no surprise that John was the first person to be recommended for the commercial director position in his organization. Paul exhibits a strong work ethic and work excellence.
Paul shows integrity in his work by practicing the highest work ethics standards. He comes and leaves work on time and takes his breaks at the stipulated time. He gives honest feedback to his manager and his colleagues. He does not misuse the agency’s resources by idling around for long hours pretending to be busy when he is not. He is honest about his work. He is dependable as he completes his tasks and delivers work timely. He consistently meets deadlines and is a good example to others. Paul goes the extra mile and takes initiative. He respects people, time, the agency’s rules, and the management of his workplace. He is a good example to his colleagues. Daily, he strives to improve the quality of work he delivers and quality extends to every aspect of his work. Although he has received recognition from his manager and colleagues, he is not proud about. These are some great qualities from Paul that enable him to achieve work excellence.
